Barbados Although British for almost 400 years, tradition tells us that the Portugese, the first Europeans to find the island, named it Os Barbados, the bearded ones, after the Bearded fig Tree's that grew on the beaches.
The most easterly of the Windward islands it is 21 miles wide by 14 miles long a place to calm the senses, wade in the clear Caribbean waters or bask in the sunshine on the sandy beaches. A destination that people return to year after year for the remarkable atmosphere, an ideal introduction to the West Indies. The contrast of the islands freen interior with its plentiful flora and fauna, west coast palm fringed beaches, hotels and fine restaurants and the rugged eastern Atlantic side make it a fascinating place to visit and sample the Caribbean lifestyle.
