  Madeira

Madeira, situated off the coast of West Africa with its sub tropical climate is a popular destination at all times of year. Temperatures are generally warm throughout the year ranging from 16 C to 25 C with occasional downpours.

The island is about 40 miles long and 20 miles wide and has many places of historic interest and natural beauty. Funchal, the capital is a bustling town with a choice of shops and restaurants in tree lined cobbled streets. Best buys include traditional craft items such as basketwork, tapestries, leather goods and wine. A visit to Avenida Arriaga 28 to sample the delights of Madeira’s famous wine is a must.

The range of scenery and terrain make Madeira a good choice for walkers. The levada irrigation system which runs for the full length of the islands provides an opportunity to explore much of the island.

Discerning travelers return regularly to Madeira for its sophisticated attractions including first class hotels, restaurants and entertainment. Those seeking an active holiday will find two golf courses and innumerable tennis courts.
